Saint Bernard Piste Map and Overview

The Saint Bernard ski region in the Valais is a quiet, authentic Alpine destination made up of several small ski areas spread across the stunning Pays du Saint-Bernard valley. Instead of one large interconnected mega-resort, you get a collection of peaceful ski zones like La Fouly, Champex-Lac, and Vichères–Liddes, all surrounded by dramatic peaks near the Great St Bernard Pass. The atmosphere is calm, traditional, and very uncrowded, making it a strong choice for skiers who prefer natural terrain, scenic runs, and a slower pace compared to busier Swiss resorts. The skiing typically sits between roughly 1,490 m and 2,270 m, giving reliable conditions in a high-mountain setting with excellent views throughout.

What makes Saint Bernard especially appealing is its variety across small, characterful areas. La Fouly offers gentle, flowing slopes perfect for relaxed skiing and learning, Champex-Lac combines scenic lakeside skiing with wide intermediate runs, and Vichères–Liddes adds a more local, slightly steeper feel for confident skiers. Across the whole region, the vibe is very low-stress — no big lift queues, no crowded pistes, just open space and mountain scenery. It’s also popular with freeriders and touring skiers thanks to the natural terrain and quiet backcountry feel, giving the whole area a more adventurous, exploratory character than most traditional resorts.

Ski Season Length and Dates:

The ski season in the Saint Bernard region typically runs from early December through mid-April, depending on snowfall and conditions. Because the area is spread across several mid-to-high altitude slopes, some sectors open earlier or close later than others, but the core season is generally consistent through winter.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes — Saint Bernard is actually very good for beginners, especially in La Fouly and Champex-Lac. The slopes are quiet, wide, and naturally shaped, which makes learning feel calm and non-intimidating. Ski schools are well integrated into the smaller villages, and the lack of crowds means beginners can progress without pressure. That said, because the area is split into different sectors, beginners will usually stay within one ski zone rather than exploring the full network early on.

What’s included in the Ski Pass?

  • The standard Saint Bernard PASS includes access to the main ski areas in the region:
  • Covers all lifts and pistes within these ski zones (multiple small resorts rather than one continuous system)
  • Includes access to:
    • ~113 km of total ski runs across the region
    • 17 ski lifts across the network
    • Beginner-friendly slopes and ski school areas in each sector
  • The pass can also include:
    • Local bus transport between villages (depending on pass type)
    • Access to winter walking, sledging, and snowshoe routes in some packages
  • Cheaper options are available:
    • Individual area passes (e.g., La Fouly-only or Champex-Lac-only tickets)
    • Half-day passes for each sector
  • You do not need the full Saint Bernard PASS if you only want to ski one area — each ski zone sells its own local lift pass
  • The full PASS is best value if you want to explore multiple valleys in one trip
