Silvretta Montafon Piste Map and Overview

Silvretta Montafon is a strong choice for skiers and snowboarders who want a large, modern Austrian ski area with a more sporty feel than a typical family-only resort. Spread between Schruns, St. Gallenkirch and Gaschurn in Vorarlberg, it combines 140 km of slopes, 35 lifts and a top station at 2,430 m. The terrain is varied enough for a full week on the mountain, with long valley descents, broad cruising pistes and a notably large vertical range.

Snowboarders are particularly well catered for thanks to the Snowpark Montafon, which has features for different ability levels, as well as freeride routes and cross runs. More advanced skiers can take on the five “Black Scorpion” runs, some with gradients of up to 67%, while confident intermediates can enjoy the 12 km HochjochTotale descent. It is a lively, action-focused area, but there are still accessible runs and beginner zones for less experienced visitors.

Ski Season Length and Dates

Silvretta Montafon generally operates from late November or early December until mid-April, depending on snow conditions and lift operations. Its higher terrain, with much of the ski area above 2,000 m, supports good snow reliability through the main winter season; however, exact opening and closing dates should always be checked before booking.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes, although it is best suited to beginners who are ready to progress beyond the nursery slope. There are easy pistes and learning areas, including gentle sections of the HochjochTotale, but the resort’s overall personality is more geared towards sporty intermediates, freeriders and confident skiers or snowboarders. Beginners should focus on the designated easy areas and plan their routes carefully, as some valley descents and advanced sectors are considerably more demanding.

What’s included in the Ski Pass?

  • The standard Silvretta Montafon ski pass covers the full connected Silvretta Montafon ski area, including 140 km / 87 miles of slopes and 35 lifts.
  • It includes the linked Hochjoch and former Silvretta Nova sectors, with access points around Schruns, Silbertal, St. Gallenkirch and Gaschurn.
  • The pass covers the Snowpark Montafon, race area and the resort’s marked pistes; freeride terrain should only be used with appropriate experience, equipment and avalanche awareness.
  • You do not need to buy a larger regional pass to ski the full Silvretta Montafon area: the local pass already covers its entire linked domain.
  • Shorter-duration options, such as half-day and day tickets, are generally available for visitors who do not need a full multi-day pass; these are the more affordable choice for a brief visit or a partial day on the slopes.
  • Wider regional tickets, such as the Montafon Brandnertal WildPass, can provide access to additional nearby ski areas, including Golm, Gargellen, Kristberg, Silvretta-Bielerhöhe and the Brandnertal resorts. These are separate areas rather than lift-linked extensions of Silvretta Montafon, so the wider pass is most useful for longer stays with planned day trips.
  • For most visitors staying solely in Silvretta Montafon, the local pass is the best-value option; choose a regional pass only if you plan to ski several resorts during the same holiday.
