Obertauern Piste Map and Overview
Obertauern is one of Austria’s most snow-reliable ski resorts and a fantastic choice for skiers and snowboarders who want a high-altitude, ski-in/ski-out-style holiday. The village sits at around 1,752 m, with pistes reaching 2,313 m, and the resort typically operates from November into May. Its compact layout means lifts and slopes surround the village, so it is easy to get on the mountain quickly and return to your accommodation without long transfers.
The resort offers more than 100 km of groomed pistes, with a strong mix of cruising blue and red runs, modern lifts and two signature circuits: the green and red Tauernrunde. These linked routes make it easy to explore the whole mountain without repeating the same lift all day. What’s included in the Ski Pass?
- The standard Obertauern ski pass covers the full local ski area: 100 km / 62 miles of pistes and approximately 25–26 lifts.
- It includes the complete Obertauern lift network and both the Green Tauernrunde and Red Tauernrunde circuits.
- Ski passes of up to one day are valid in Obertauern only.
- Passes valid for 1.5 days or longer also include the nearby Grosseck–Speiereck ski area in Mauterndorf, around 15 km away.
- This means longer-stay visitors can ski both Obertauern and Grosseck–Speiereck, giving access to a second resort without buying a separate pass.
- There are cheaper options for shorter or lighter skiing days, including two-hour, three-hour, half-day and point-card passes.
- Point cards are valid in Obertauern only, so they are best suited to beginners, families, or visitors who do not expect to use many lifts.
- For a full week of skiing or snowboarding, the regular multi-day pass is usually the simplest option; community feedback suggests point cards can work for limited lift use, but a full pass becomes better value for regular full-day skiing.
