Maria Alm Piste Map and Overview

Set beneath the dramatic peaks of the Hochkönig massif, Maria Alm is one of Austria’s most charming ski villages and a fantastic base for exploring the wider Hochkönig ski area. The resort combines traditional alpine atmosphere with modern skiing infrastructure, offering wide scenic pistes, reliable snow conditions, and direct access to one of the best ski circuits in the Alps — the famous Königstour. Unlike some of Austria’s busier party resorts, Maria Alm feels relaxed and authentic, making it especially appealing for families, couples, and skiers who value beautiful mountain scenery and quieter slopes.

Maria Alm is particularly well suited to beginner and intermediate skiers thanks to its long cruising blue and red runs, excellent ski schools, and forgiving terrain. Snowboarders also enjoy the naturally flowing pistes and freestyle areas like the Blue Tomato Kings Park. The village itself adds to the appeal, with cosy Austrian restaurants, traditional hotels, and easy access to neighbouring ski sectors including Dienten and Mühlbach. Because it’s part of the huge Ski amadé network, visitors can also upgrade for access to hundreds of additional kilometres of skiing across Austria.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes — Maria Alm is widely considered one of the better beginner-friendly ski resorts in Austria. The village has gentle nursery slopes close to the centre, highly rated ski schools, magic carpet lifts, and wide blue pistes that make learning comfortable and less intimidating. As confidence improves, beginners can easily progress onto longer cruising runs across the wider Hochkönig area without encountering overly difficult terrain too quickly. Families especially appreciate the calm atmosphere and child-focused ski facilities.
