Val Claret Piste Map and Overview
Located at the top end of Tignes, Val Claret is a dream base for skiers and snowboarders who want instant access to high-altitude terrain and some of the most reliable snow in the Alps. Sitting right at the foot of the Grande Motte Glacier, this area offers exceptional snow conditions throughout the season, often allowing skiing earlier and later than many other resorts. Its ski-in/ski-out convenience means you can hit the slopes straight from your accommodation – no long walks or bus rides required.
What makes Val Claret truly stand out is its connection to the vast Espace Killy (now commonly referred to as the Tignes–Val d’Isère area). This gives you access to an enormous variety of terrain, from wide-open cruisers to challenging off-piste and legendary runs. Whether you’re a beginner finding your feet or an advanced rider chasing steep descents, the sheer scale and diversity here make it one of the best all-round ski and snowboard destinations in Europe.

Is it good for beginners?
Yes – but with a caveat. While Val Claret itself sits high up and has more intermediate and advanced terrain nearby, there are still excellent beginner areas and ski schools available. Absolute beginners may find lower areas of Tignes (like Le Lac) slightly easier to start in, but progression into more varied terrain here is excellent once you’ve got the basics down.
