Argentiere Les Grand Montets Piste Map and Overview
Argentière’s Les Grands Montets is widely considered one of the most exciting ski areas in the Alps, especially for those who crave big-mountain terrain and authentic alpine adventure. Sitting high above the Chamonix Valley, it delivers dramatic vertical drops, glacier skiing, and vast open slopes that feel wild and untamed. The combination of altitude and a north-facing aspect helps preserve snow quality exceptionally well, meaning you’ll often find reliable conditions long after other resorts start to soften.
What really sets it apart, though, is its legendary freeride reputation. This is a place where advanced skiers and snowboarders can push themselves on steep pistes and explore some of the best off-piste terrain in Europe. At the same time, there are still cruisy reds and blues plus a dedicated beginner area lower down, making it more versatile than its “expert-only” reputation suggests. It’s the kind of resort that feels raw, high-alpine, and unforgettable – perfect if you want skiing with real character rather than polished predictability.

Is it good for beginners?
Les Grands Montets isn’t primarily known as a beginner resort – it’s much better suited to intermediate and advanced riders. However, there is a beginner-friendly zone at Les Chosalets, offering gentle slopes and a safe place to learn before progressing higher up the mountain. Once beginners improve, they can move onto blues and easier reds within the main area.
