Kuehtai-Hochoetz Piste Map and Overview
Kühtai–Hochoetz is an excellent choice for skiers and snowboarders who want both high-altitude snow reliability and a wider variety of terrain. Kühtai is Austria’s highest ski village, sitting at 2,020 m, with slopes rising to 2,520 m; this makes it particularly appealing for early-season trips and spring skiing. It also has a convenient ski-in/ski-out feel, with many hotels and lifts located directly beside the pistes.
The combined area gives visitors two contrasting resorts in one pass. Kühtai offers a more alpine, snow-sure setting with wide pistes, freeride opportunities and the KPark freestyle area, while Hochoetz brings sunnier, family-friendly slopes above Oetz. They are not lift-linked, but a free ski bus connects them, making the area a flexible option for mixed-ability groups and longer stays.

Ski Season Length and Dates
Kühtai’s winter season runs though November to April, with the high altitude helping to provide reliable snow from early December into April. Hochoetz usually operates on a slightly shorter timetable, so visitors should check the live lift status and exact dates for both areas before travelling.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes, particularly in Hochoetz. The Hochoetz side is known for its relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, broad blue and red pistes, and quieter layout, making it a comfortable place to learn and progress. Kühtai also has beginner terrain and wide slopes, but its higher, more alpine setting and stronger selection of red and black runs make it especially rewarding for confident intermediates and advanced skiers or snowboarders.
What’s included in the Ski Pass?
- The Kühtai–Hochoetz ski pass covers both Kühtai and Hochoetz, with around 90 km / 56 miles of pistes and 27 lifts across the combined area.
- The two resorts are connected by a free ski bus, generally running every 30 minutes; they are separate ski areas rather than being connected by lifts or pistes.
- Kühtai includes 49 km of pistes, high-altitude skiing, the KPark freestyle area, KidsPark, night skiing on selected evenings, and a range of freeride terrain.
- Hochoetz includes more than 41 km of slopes and is the more family-focused, sunny side of the partnership.
- A combined pass is the standard option for visitors wanting access to both resorts.
- Cheaper local-only tickets are available, so you do not necessarily have to buy the whole combined-area pass. A Hochoetz-only pass can suit beginners, families and shorter stays, while a Kühtai-only ticket can make sense if you plan to remain in the high-altitude resort.
- Choose the combined pass if you want the freedom to ski both areas; choose a local ticket if you are staying in one resort and do not expect to use the ski bus.
