Hochkönig Piste Map and Overview

Set in the heart of Austria’s SalzburgerLand region, Hochkönig is a dream destination for skiers and snowboarders who want stunning scenery, long cruising runs, and a more relaxed atmosphere than some of the country’s busier mega-resorts. The ski area links the charming alpine villages of Maria Alm, Dienten, and Mühlbach into one expansive network, offering beautifully maintained pistes, modern lift infrastructure, and breathtaking views of the dramatic Hochkönig massif. One of the biggest highlights is the famous Königstour — a full-day ski circuit stretching across six peaks and around 35 km of connected runs, widely considered one of the best ski safaris in the Alps.

Hochkönig is especially popular with intermediate skiers and snowboarders thanks to its wide red pistes, reliable snowfall, and uncrowded slopes, but beginners and advanced riders are also well catered for. Families love the friendly villages and excellent ski schools, while snowboarders enjoy the terrain parks, freeride sections, and naturally flowing terrain that’s perfect for carving. Another major advantage is that Hochkönig forms part of the huge Ski amadé network, giving visitors the option to upgrade their ski pass and access hundreds of additional kilometres of pistes across Austria.

Ski Season Length and Dates:

The Hochkönig ski season typically runs from early December through mid-April, with strong snow reliability thanks to the region’s high snowfall levels and extensive snowmaking coverage.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes — Hochkönig is very beginner-friendly, especially around the villages of Maria Alm and Dienten where you’ll find gentle nursery slopes, excellent ski schools, and wide blue pistes that are ideal for building confidence. The resort layout also makes progression easy, with plenty of long, forgiving intermediate runs once beginners are ready to move up. Families particularly appreciate the relaxed pace, quieter slopes, and child-focused learning areas.

Does the ski pass include multiple resorts?

Yes. The standard Hochkönig ski pass already includes several interconnected resorts and villages within the Hochkönig region:

  • Maria Alm
  • Dienten
  • Mühlbach
  • Hintermoos
  • Hinterthal

These operate together as one large connected ski area.

Are there cheaper ski pass options?

Yes — Hochkönig offers a few different pass choices depending on how much terrain you want access to:

  • Hochkönig-only passes for skiing exclusively within the local area
  • Single-day and multi-day passes
  • Beginner and learner-area tickets
  • Family discounts and youth/senior pricing
  • Ski amadé upgrade passes that unlock access to five major Austrian ski regions with more than 760 km of pistes

So you do not have to buy the full Ski amadé mega-pass unless you specifically want access to the wider network beyond Hochkönig itself.
