Ski Season Length and Dates

The Obergurgl–Hochgurgl season typically runs from mid-November until late April, making it one of Austria’s longest non-glacier ski seasons. Thanks to its high altitude, it is widely regarded as one of the safest bets for early-season and late-season snow conditions in the Alps.


Is it good for beginners?

Yes. Hochgurgl is one of the more beginner-friendly high-altitude resorts in Austria. The area features a good selection of wide blue runs, gentle learning zones, and modern lifts that make progression comfortable. While complete first-timers may spend their first day or two on nursery slopes, beginners quickly gain confidence thanks to the resort’s forgiving terrain and excellent piste grooming. The resort is especially well suited to beginners who have already completed a few ski lessons and want to progress to longer mountain runs.
