Valloire Piste Map and Overview

Tucked into the Maurienne Valley in the French Alps, Valloire is a traditional mountain village that’s become part of the excellent Galibier-Thabor ski domain. It links with nearby Valmeinier to create a surprisingly large and varied ski area, yet it still manages to feel relaxed and uncrowded. With a mix of wooded slopes, wide cruising runs, and panoramic ridge skiing, Valloire offers a classic Alpine experience that feels both authentic and accessible.

What makes Valloire stand out is how well it suits progression. Beginners can start gently in sheltered areas close to the village, while intermediates have miles of long, flowing reds and blues to explore. More advanced riders aren’t left out either, with steeper sections and off-piste potential on higher terrain like Crey du Quart. Add in its friendly atmosphere and reliable snow at altitude, and you get a resort that balances variety, charm, and value exceptionally well.

Typically runs from mid-December to mid-April, with the full Galibier-Thabor area usually open from late December through early April depending on conditions. The high proportion of slopes above 2,000 m helps maintain good snow reliability throughout the season.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes – Valloire is one of the stronger all-round beginner resorts in the Alps. There are dedicated nursery zones at altitude, plus long green runs that make learning feel fun rather than confined. The gentle terrain also makes it easy to progress naturally into blues without feeling stuck on tiny practice slopes.
