Kreischberg Piste Map and Overview
Kreischberg is a great choice for skiers and snowboarders looking for a modern, well-groomed Austrian ski area with plenty of variety but without the crowds or complexity of a huge Alpine domain. Near Murau in Styria, it offers wide pistes, fast lifts and a strong reputation for piste preparation. The terrain ranges from gentle beginner slopes around the upper gondola station to long carving runs and more challenging descents back towards the valley, so it works particularly well for families and mixed-ability groups.
Snowboarders are especially well catered for here, thanks to broad slopes, freestyle facilities and the resort’s long-standing reputation as a venue for major snowboarding events. Confident skiers can enjoy the long Rosenkranzhöhe-to-valley descent, while those who prefer relaxed cruising will find plenty of wide blue and red pistes higher on the mountain. With extensive snowmaking across much of the area, Kreischberg is a dependable option throughout the main winter season.

Ski Season Length and Dates
Kreischberg generally operates from early December to early April, depending on snow and weather conditions. The exact opening and closing dates should be confirmed on the official lift-status page before booking.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes. Kreischberg is a good resort for beginners, with wide, gentle pistes around the upper mountain and dedicated learner facilities including a baby lift and magic carpet. The easiest terrain is best accessed higher up, while the valley descents are graded difficult and are not suitable for first-time skiers or snowboarders; beginners can download on the gondola from the mid-station instead.
What’s included in the Ski Pass?
- The local Kreischberg ski pass covers the full Kreischberg area, including around 42 km / 26 miles of pistes and 13 lifts.
- It includes access to Kreischberg’s beginner facilities, wide groomed pistes, permanent race track, speed track and mountain adventure areas.
- A combined Kreischberg and Lachtal multi-day ski pass is available, giving access to both resorts under one ticket.
- Lachtal is a separate ski area rather than being linked by lifts or pistes, so visitors travel between the two resorts independently.
- You do not have to buy the combined pass: day tickets for Kreischberg only are available and are the cheaper choice if you plan to stay in one resort.
- Wider regional products, including the Mur-Mürz Top-Skipass and Steiermark Joker, are also offered for visitors planning to ski across several Styrian resorts.
- For most short breaks, the local Kreischberg ticket is the simplest option; choose the Kreischberg–Lachtal pass only if you plan to ski both areas.
