Niederau Piste Map and Overview

Niederau is a charming, family-friendly base in the Wildschönau valley, with direct access to the wider Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau area. It is a great fit for skiers and snowboarders who value a relaxed Tyrolean atmosphere, approachable slopes and plenty of variety without the intensity of a huge, high-speed resort. The local Markbachjoch sector offers enjoyable tree-lined runs and a race/training area, while the lift-linked network opens up a much larger choice of terrain across Wildschönau and Alpbachtal.

The real strength is versatility. Beginners can start on dedicated nursery terrain in Niederau and nearby Oberau, intermediates have the largest share of the piste map to explore, and stronger riders can add steeper black pistes, ski routes, snowparks and funslopes. It is particularly good for families and mixed-ability groups, although its comparatively low altitude means conditions are generally most dependable in the heart of winter rather than at the very start or end of the season.

Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau generally runs from early December to mid-April.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes – Niederau is one of the better choices in the area for beginners. It has accessible practice slopes, children’s facilities and easy runs close to the village, with further gentle terrain in Oberau and Roggenboden. As confidence grows, the wider Ski Juwel pass gives learners a natural progression into longer blue and easier red pistes elsewhere in the network.

What’s included in the Ski Pass?

  • A local Nauders–Bergkastel pass covers lifts and marked pistes at Bergkastelseilbahn Nauders / Skigebiet Nauders Bergkastel.
  • The local ticket is the best fit if you plan to ski only Nauders, rather than paying for access to neighbouring mountains.
  • The wider Zwei Länder Skiarena pass includes Nauders plus Schöneben–Haideralm at Reschensee and Watles, creating a three-resort network with around 158 km / 98 miles of pistes.
  • There are broader regional passes accepted in Nauders too, including Snow Card Tirol, Tirol Regio Card and Ski 6; these are most relevant for longer trips or plans to ski well beyond the immediate Nauders area.
  • Cheaper options are available: look for beginner/practice-lift tickets, shorter-duration passes, child/youth/senior categories, and local Nauders-only tickets rather than a multi-resort pass.

Does the ski pass include multiple resorts?

  • The standard Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau pass is a genuine multi-resort pass: one ticket covers the full linked Ski Juwel network, rather than Niederau alone.
  • It includes the Wildschönau sectors of Niederau / Markbachjoch, Oberau, and Auffach / Schatzberg.
  • It also includes the Alpbachtal sectors of Alpbach / Wiedersbergerhorn, Inneralpbach, Reith im Alpbachtal / Reither Kogel, and Kramsach.
  • The Wildschönau and Alpbachtal sides are connected on the mountain via the Schatzberg link, so the pass gives practical access to both valleys in one ski day.
  • There are also shorter-duration and flexible hourly tickets, plus family and age-category options, for visitors who do not need a full-day or multi-day pass.
  • If you only want to ski a small local area, check whether a beginner-lift or limited-area ticket is available for your dates; however, the main resort pass is designed around access to the whole Ski Juwel network rather than a Niederau-only full-area pass.
