Glungezer Piste Map and Overview

Glungezer is a quiet, scenic ski area above Tulfes in the Innsbruck region, offering a refreshing alternative to the larger and busier Tyrolean resorts. Known for its natural terrain, long panoramic descents, and relaxed atmosphere, it feels more like a traditional mountain experience than a modern ski factory. With wide views over the Inn Valley and the Nordkette range, it’s especially appealing to skiers who value scenery, space, and a slower pace over high-intensity resort skiing. It’s also a popular local mountain for Innsbruck residents who want easy access to uncrowded slopes.

Glungezer is best suited to intermediates, with long flowing red runs that are often described as some of the most enjoyable cruising pistes in the Innsbruck area. Beginners can learn comfortably at the base station, while confident skiers will enjoy the extended descents from the top station down into the valley. Snowboarders will find natural, undulating terrain rather than freestyle parks, making it ideal for relaxed riding and carving. While it’s not a large ski area, its charm lies in its simplicity, mountain character, and quiet slopes that rarely feel crowded.

Ski Season Length and Dates

Glungezer typically operates from early December to early April, depending on snow conditions. Its higher altitude helps maintain good snow reliability through most of the winter, especially on upper slopes, while snowmaking supports the lower sections.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes — but it’s best for confident beginners or those learning with instruction. The base area has gentle practice slopes and ski school facilities, but the resort quickly opens into longer intermediate terrain. Beginners who progress quickly will enjoy the long, uncrowded runs, though complete first-timers may prefer a slightly larger learning-focused resort nearby.

What’s included in the Ski Pass?

  • Access to all lifts in the Glungezer ski area
  • Use of gondola, chairlifts, and drag lifts
  • Access to beginner practice areas at the base station
  • Long valley descent runs (when conditions allow)
  • Mountain huts and panoramic viewing platforms
  • Access to ski touring and winter hiking routes in the area

Does it include multiple resorts?

No — the standard Glungezer pass is only valid for the Glungezer ski area.

However, within the wider Innsbruck region, other ski areas exist (separate tickets required unless using regional passes), including:

  • Patscherkofel
  • Axamer Lizum
  • Kühtai
  • Muttereralm
  • Nordkette
  • Schlick 2000

These are only included if you upgrade to a regional Innsbruck ski pass.

Are cheaper ski passes available?

Yes — Glungezer is fairly flexible and good value:

  • Single-day Glungezer-only passes
  • Half-day tickets
  • Beginner slope tickets
  • Multi-day discounts
  • Regional Innsbruck ski passes (optional upgrade for multiple resorts)

Most visitors stick with the Glungezer-only ticket, as the ski area is compact and easy to enjoy in a relaxed day.
