Auffach Piste Map and Overview

Tucked into the scenic Wildschönau valley in Tyrol, Auffach is one of the main gateways into the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski area, a relaxed and family-friendly region known for its traditional Austrian villages and wide, uncrowded pistes. The village sits right at the base of the Schatzberg gondola, meaning you can step out of your accommodation and be quickly whisked up into a surprisingly large and varied ski network. What makes Auffach stand out is its calm atmosphere combined with access to a much bigger ski area than you might expect, all wrapped in classic Tyrolean scenery of forested slopes and rolling alpine ridges.

For skiers and snowboarders, Auffach is especially appealing because it offers easy progression across a well-balanced mountain. Beginners can stay on gentle blue slopes near the mid-station learning areas, while intermediates enjoy long, flowing red runs that stretch across the Schatzberg and into the wider Alpbachtal link. Confident riders can even explore valley-to-valley routes that connect into Inneralpbach, creating full-day ski itineraries. Snowboarders benefit from modern lift systems, generally smooth piste grooming, and natural terrain flow through the trees. It’s not a high-altitude extreme resort, but it excels at relaxed, scenic cruising with plenty of mileage.

Ski Season Length and Dates

The Auffach / Ski Juwel area typically runs from early December to early April, depending on snow conditions. The higher slopes around the Schatzberg help maintain more reliable skiing, while snowmaking supports the lower valley sections to extend the season. Mid-January through March is usually the most consistent period for conditions across the full area.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes — but it depends on confidence level.

  • Excellent learning zones near the Schatzberg mid-station
  • Gentle blue runs ideal for first progression steps
  • Ski schools and family areas are well developed
  • Tree-lined pistes provide good visibility and shelter in poor weather

However, beginners who are still very new may find the long descents a bit more demanding than ultra-gentle nursery-only resorts. It’s best for new skiers who are ready to progress quickly.

What’s Included in the Ski Pass?

A standard Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau pass includes:

  • Access to all lifts in the Ski Juwel area
  • Full access to the Schatzberg (Auffach) ski sector
  • Access to the Alpbachtal sector (Wiedersbergerhorn side)
  • All marked pistes (blue, red, black) across both valleys
  • Ski routes and valley-to-valley connecting runs
  • Beginner zones and practice lifts (including children’s areas)
  • Snowparks and fun areas within the ski region
  • Access to ski bus links between valley villages

Does it include multiple resorts?

Yes — this is a key feature of the area.

The Ski Juwel pass includes:

  • Auffach / Wildschönau (Schatzberg)
  • Niederau / Oberau / Thierbach (Wildschönau villages)
  • Alpbach / Inneralpbach (Alpbachtal side)

These are connected into one ski system via lifts (not just buses), including the Schatzberg connection to Alpbach, forming a single unified ski area.

Are there cheaper ski passes for only a few resorts?

Yes:

  • You can buy a local Wildschönau-only pass (Auffach/Schatzberg focus)
  • Or an Alpbachtal-only pass if staying on the other side
  • Short-stay options include:
    • Half-day tickets
    • Multi-day passes
    • Beginner-area tickets in some villages

If you want full variety across both valleys, the full Ski Juwel pass is usually the best value. Otherwise, a single-valley pass is perfectly fine for shorter or more relaxed ski trips.

If you want a traditional Tyrolean village base with access to a surprisingly large ski area, scenic cruising runs, and relaxed crowds, Auffach is one of the most enjoyable entry points into Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau.
