Valmeiner Piste Map and Overview
Set high in the Maurienne Valley in the French Alps, Valmeinier is part of the excellent Galibier-Thabor ski domain and shares its slopes with neighbouring Valloire. It’s a modern, purpose-built resort that sits at altitude, meaning you get quick access to snow-sure terrain and sweeping mountain views. With wide-open pistes above the treeline and quieter runs compared to the big-name mega-resorts, it’s a great option if you want plenty of skiing without the crowds or stress.
What makes Valmeinier especially appealing is its balance of accessibility and variety. Beginners benefit from gentle slopes around the village, while intermediates can explore long, flowing runs across the Gros Crey sector. More advanced skiers will find steeper pitches and off-piste opportunities higher up the mountain. As part of the wider Galibier-Thabor area, it offers a surprisingly large playground while still feeling relaxed and easy to navigate.

Is it good for beginners?
Yes – Valmeinier is a solid beginner-friendly resort. There are dedicated learning areas near both Valmeinier 1500 and 1800, plus plenty of wide, gentle blue runs to progress onto.
