Gargellen Piste Map and Overview

Tucked away in Austria’s beautiful Montafon Valley, Gargellen is one of the Alps’ best-kept secrets for skiers and snowboarders. Sitting at over 1,400 metres above sea level, it enjoys exceptional snow reliability throughout the winter season, while its compact layout makes it easy to explore without spending half the day travelling between lifts. Wide, cruisy pistes are perfect for relaxed skiing, while the higher slopes around the Schafberg offer breathtaking mountain views and plenty of opportunities for confident riders to push themselves.

What really sets Gargellen apart is its balance. Beginners and families love the uncrowded slopes and welcoming atmosphere, while experienced skiers and snowboarders can enjoy challenging black runs, ski routes and off-piste terrain. Unlike many larger resorts, Gargellen retains an authentic Alpine village feel, with traditional mountain huts and ski-in/ski-out convenience that lets you spend more time on the snow and less time queuing. Its high-altitude location and reputation for excellent snowfall make it a fantastic choice for anyone looking for dependable conditions throughout the season.

Ski Season Length and Dates

Gargellen typically operates from late November until mid-April, offering one of the longest and most snow-sure seasons in the Montafon region thanks to its high altitude and favourable microclimate.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes — Gargellen is widely regarded as an excellent resort for beginners and improving skiers. The area features a large proportion of wide blue runs, gentle learning terrain near the village, and a compact, easy-to-navigate layout that makes it difficult to get lost. Families particularly appreciate the quiet slopes and relaxed atmosphere compared with Austria’s larger destination resorts. Snowboarders learning to ride will also benefit from the forgiving terrain and uncrowded pistes.

What’s included in the Ski Pass?

The main pass used by visitors is the Montafon Brandnertal WildPass. This pass includes access to multiple ski areas across the region.

Included ski resorts:

  • Gargellen
  • Silvretta Montafon
  • Golm
  • Kristberg
  • Brandnertal
  • Additional participating lifts and mountain railways within the Montafon-Brandnertal network.

The WildPass typically includes:

  • Unlimited access to participating ski lifts and gondolas
  • Access to over 240 km of pistes across the wider region
  • Ski and snowboard terrain across multiple resorts
  • Connected winter sports infrastructure throughout Montafon and Brandnertal
  • Access to beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain across the network

Are there cheaper passes available?

Yes. You do not have to buy the full Montafon Brandnertal WildPass. Visitors staying primarily in Gargellen can usually purchase local-area lift passes that are valid only for the Gargellen ski area, which are cheaper than the full regional pass. The WildPass is best value if you plan to ski several resorts during your holiday, while a local Gargellen pass is often the more economical choice for families and beginners who intend to stay within the resort.
