Rofan Piste Map and Overview
Rofan above Maurach am Achensee is a small but incredibly scenic ski area that delivers a relaxed, uncrowded alternative to Austria’s larger resorts. Reached in just a few minutes by the Rofan cable car, it opens up into a sunny high-mountain bowl with stunning views over Lake Achensee and the surrounding Karwendel and Rofan ranges. Despite its modest size, it feels special thanks to its dramatic scenery, quiet slopes, and peaceful atmosphere — perfect for skiers who value space and simplicity over big resort crowds. It’s especially popular with families and relaxed cruisers looking for a stress-free day on the snow.
For skiing and snowboarding, Rofan offers a surprisingly varied mix of terrain for its compact footprint. The slopes are mainly geared toward intermediates, but there are gentle runs for beginners and a few steeper black options for more confident skiers. Snowboarders will enjoy the natural flow of the terrain, while the high altitude helps maintain good snow conditions through the season. With a mix of wide pistes, mountain huts, and easy lift access, it’s more about relaxed exploration and views than high-intensity skiing — ideal as a chilled day resort or part of a multi-area Achensee trip.

Is it good for beginners?
Yes — Rofan is beginner-friendly, especially for those who already have a little confidence on skis. There are dedicated practice areas both in the valley and at the mountain station, plus gentle blue runs that make progression easy. However, it’s not a large learning resort, so absolute first-timers may prefer something with more extensive beginner zones. For improvers and relaxed cruisers, though, it’s a great low-pressure place to build confidence.
What’s included in the Ski Pass?
- Access via the Rofan cable car from Maurach
- Use of all 11 km of pistes in the ski area
- Access to 1 gondola, 2 chairlifts, and 2 beginner conveyor lifts
- Beginner ski areas in Maurach and at the mountain station
- Access to mountain huts and on-mountain restaurants
- Use of marked valley descent routes back to Maurach
- Access to winter hiking and ski touring routes from the summit area
Does it include multiple resorts?
No — the standard Rofan ski pass is only valid for the Rofan ski area. However, it is part of the wider Achensee region, so nearby ski areas exist separately, such as:
- Christlum (Achenkirch)
- Karwendel lifts (Pertisau)
- Planberg/Wiesen lifts (small local areas)
These are generally not included in the same ticket, unless you are using a broader regional pass like Snow Card Tirol.
Are cheaper ski passes available?
Yes — Rofan is very flexible with pricing, including:
- Single-day Rofan-only passes
- Half-day tickets
- Beginner lift-area tickets
- Multi-day discounts for short stays
- Regional upgrades (e.g. Snow Card Tirol for multiple ski areas across Tyrol)
Most visitors simply buy a Rofan-only ticket, since the area is small, self-contained, and easy to explore in a single relaxed day.
