Cataloochee Piste Map and Overview

Cataloochee Ski Area is a charming, family-focused resort tucked into the Great Smoky Mountains near Maggie Valley, NC. As North Carolina’s oldest ski area (opened in 1961), it delivers a well-rounded experience with 18 trails covering beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Beginners enjoy nearly half the mountain while intermediate and expert skiers also have plenty of terrain, including one terrain park and fully lit slopes for night skiing. With a modern lodge offering dining, rentals, lessons, and a friendly staff, it’s ideal for families and learners. Its excellent snow-making system ensures a reliable season that often stretches well into spring.

Beyond being beginner-friendly, Cataloochee stands out with its scenic beauty – dramatic views over Cataloochee Valley and proximity to the Great Smoky National Park – and a vibrant vibe thanks to its connection with snowboard icon Zeb Powell. Its efficient lift network (three chairlifts and two conveyor lifts) keeps lines manageable, and it supports night skiing across its entire 50‑acre domain. Whether you’re chasing a mellow family outing or refining your technique under the lights, Cataloochee offers a warm, sustainable, and scenic ski experience.
