Big Moose Piste Map and Overview
Big Moose Mountain, located in Greenville, Maine, offers a unique and historic skiing experience. Established in 1963, it was initially known as Big Squaw Mountain until its name change in 2000. The ski area is situated on the north side of Big Moose Mountain, overlooking the scenic Moosehead Lake. Over the years, the resort has undergone various expansions and renovations, including the installation of a double chairlift in 1967, which increased the vertical drop to 1,700 feet, making it the second-largest ski area in Maine at that time.
Today, Big Moose Mountain is operated by a nonprofit organization, Friends of the Mountain, which has revitalized the area through community support and volunteer efforts. The resort features 33 trails and a vertical drop of 660 feet. While it may not boast the extensive amenities of larger resorts, Big Moose Mountain offers a more intimate and community-focused skiing experience. Its location provides stunning views of Moosehead Lake and the surrounding wilderness, making it a hidden gem for those seeking a peaceful and scenic winter retreat.
