Samnaun Piste Map and Overview
Samnaun is a unique Swiss ski destination that forms half of the massive Silvretta Arena — one of the largest interconnected ski areas in the Eastern Alps — shared with Ischgl in Austria. Although Samnaun’s own village is smaller and quieter than Ischgl, it offers excellent access to a huge variety of terrain (with about 239 km of groomed pistes when combined with Ischgl) and a long, high-altitude season (typically late November to early May) with good snow reliability thanks to most slopes above roughly 2,000 m. The resort is also famous for being in a duty-free zone, meaning you can ski back at the end of the day and enjoy tax-free shopping — a fun bonus to the winter sports experience.
What makes Samnaun special — and tightly linked to Ischgl — is how seamlessly you can ski across the Swiss–Austrian border without passport checks as part of the Silvretta Arena ski area, just like from Ischgl’s side. This cross-border skiing opens up vast terrain that feels like one single, huge ski domain, with runs, lifts, and opportunities for all levels from gentle cruisers to challenging descents, plus unique cultural touches like duty-free skiing into the Swiss village.

What’s included in the Ski Pass?
Here’s what’s included in the ski pass for the Silvretta Arena (Ischgl–Samnaun):
🏔️ Standard Silvretta Ski Pass
- Access to the entire Silvretta Arena ski area, covering lifts and cable cars across Ischgl and Samnaun — and also into the wider Paznaun region including Galtür, Kappl and See. It’s valid on up to 76 lifts and cable cars in winter.
- This means you can ski freely across all connected terrain within the ski area, including crossing the Austrian–Swiss border between Ischgl and Samnaun without passport controls.
- Multi-day options are available (e.g., 2-day, 5-day, 9-day, 14-day passes), all with the same access — just choose how many consecutive days you want to ski.
🎿 VIP Ski Pass (Discounted Local Guest Option)
- If you have a guest card from Ischgl, Mathon, Samnaun or Spiss, you can buy a VIP ski pass at a reduced rate.
- The VIP pass is valid on 46 lifts and cable cars in the core Ischgl–Samnaun area (included within the larger Silvretta Arena).
🏄♂️ Extras & Perks (Varies by Pass)
- Children’s and senior discounts apply, and very young children often ski free when accompanied by a parent.
- Some ski passes offer discounts on local attractions like the Silvretta Therme spa during specific parts of the season.
🌍 Other Pass Options That Include Ischgl/Samnaun
- The Ikon Pass (international pass) now includes access to Ischgl–Samnaun for a limited number of days depending on the level of Ikon Pass you hold (e.g., 5-7 days).
In short, the standard Silvretta ski pass gives you unlimited lift access across the full Ischgl–Samnaun ski area (plus some neighbouring resorts) for the duration you choose, while the VIP pass is a discounted version for local guests covering the main area lifts.
