Saas Valley Ski Map
Saas Valley (Saastal) is a dream destination for both skiers and snowboarders thanks to its dramatic high-alpine setting and glacier-backed terrain. With slopes reaching up to 3,600 m, snow reliability is superb – meaning long seasons and even summer skiing in places. The valley is ringed by more than a dozen 4,000-metre peaks, creating a breathtaking backdrop. What’s more, the well-designed lift system – including the famous Metro Alpin funicular – allows you to access high, challenging terrain as well as more gentle slopes, making it ideal for a wide range of abilities.
Beyond the slopes, Saas Valley combines peaceful mountain villages (like car-free Saas-Fee) with a sense of remoteness and charm that’s hard to beat. The villages are linked by efficient transport (buses), but still feel tucked away. There’s also a great variety of off-piste activities – tobogganing, glacier walks, and even one of the world’s highest revolving restaurants at Mittelallalin. Whether you’re looking to shred powder or soak up the alpine serenity, Saas Valley offers an unforgettable winter mountain experience.
Saas Fee – The jewel of the Saas Valley, Saas Fee sits at 1,800 m and offers 100 km of pistes, including glacier skiing up to 3,600 m. With a modern lift network, long red and black runs, and beginner-friendly plateau slopes, it’s ideal for all levels. The car-free village adds charm, and après-ski options range from cozy mountain huts to high-altitude dining.
Saas Grund (Hohsaas) – Quieter and family-friendly, Saas Grund has 40 km of pistes ranging from gentle blues to steeper reds and blacks, with a base at 1,500 m and lifts reaching 3,100 m. The area is perfect for beginners and intermediates, and its small, welcoming village makes it easy to navigate. Night skiing and off-piste options add variety.
Saas Almagell – The southernmost village in the valley, Saas Almagell offers 30 km of pistes from 1,350 m to 3,000 m. Its wide, gentle slopes are ideal for beginners and intermediates, while higher runs challenge more advanced skiers. The quiet, scenic village provides a peaceful base and a more relaxed pace than the busier Saas Fee.
Saas Balen – is a tiny, beginner-friendly village with just one lift and a short nursery slope, mainly suited for very beginners or families. Note: It is not connected by ski lifts or pistes to the other Saas Valley resorts (Saas‑Fee, Saas‑Grund, Saas‑Almagell).

What’s included in the Saas Valley Ski Pass?
The main ski pass for Saas Valley gives access to the three linked ski areas in the region. However, there are separate passes if you just want to ski in one or two of the areas.
- The Saastal ski pass covers Saas-Fee, Saas-Almagell, and Hohsaas (Saas-Grund).
- You don’t have to buy a pass for the whole area if you don’t need it – for example, there are ski passes just for Saas-Grund.
- There’s flexibility depending on how much terrain you want to explore.
Is it good for beginners?
Saas Valley is considered a very good destination for beginners, especially around Saas-Fee and Saas-Grund.
Saas-Fee has wide, gentle glacier-plateau slopes that are perfect for early learners, with long, forgiving runs and excellent snow quality. The beginner areas are easily accessible and not overly steep, so new skiers and snowboarders can progress comfortably. The ski schools here also have a strong reputation, and the car-free village makes getting around simple and stress-free.
Saas-Grund (Hohsaas) is also beginner-friendly, with mellow valley-level slopes and shorter lifts that help take the pressure off those just getting started. It’s often quieter than Saas-Fee, which many first-timers appreciate. Overall, Saas Valley is a warm, welcoming place to learn – with beautiful scenery to make the early days on snow feel special.
