Wurmberg, located in Braunlage within the Harz Mountains of Lower Saxony, Germany, is the highest and largest ski resort in the region. With a summit elevation of 971 m (3,186 ft), it offers a vertical drop of 405 m (1,331 ft) from base to peak, making it the Harz’s most significant elevation difference. The resort features 12.2 km (7.6 miles) of slopes, including Germany’s longest ski slope north of the Alps, the 4.3 km (2.7 miles) “Schanzenhang” run. A modern gondola lift, along with three drag lifts, provide access to the terrain, accommodating a variety of skill levels from beginners to advanced skiers.
The ski area is equipped with 100 snow cannons, ensuring reliable snow coverage across 50% of the slopes. Operating from December through March, Wurmberg offers a range of amenities, including a ski school, snowboarding areas, and a toboggan run. The resort’s elevation and snowmaking capabilities contribute to its reputation as the premier winter destination in the Harz region.
