La Clusaz Piste Map and Overview

La Clusaz is one of the most characterful ski resorts in the French Alps — a traditional Savoyard village paired with varied, exciting terrain across five interconnected massifs. It’s also the home piste of freeride legend Candide Thovex, who learned to ski here, and in 2025 the resort named a piste after him — a rare and prestigious honour that reflects La Clusaz’s deep roots in freestyle and freeride culture. From wide beginner-friendly slopes to steep bowls and tree runs, the terrain feels playful, scenic and naturally flowing, making every run memorable.

What really sets La Clusaz apart is how well it balances world-class riding with authentic alpine charm. The resort’s 125 km (78 miles) of pistes span everything from gentle nursery zones to challenging freeride terrain in the Balme sector, all framed by stunning views of the Aravis mountains and Mont Blanc. Add in lively après-ski, excellent mountain restaurants, and a welcoming village atmosphere, and you get a destination that works just as well for families as it does for serious skiers and snowboarders chasing great snow and progression.

Ski Season Length and Dates

La Clusaz typically opens from mid-December through late April, though individual sectors can open earlier or close later depending on snow conditions. Balme may open in early December weekends, with full daily operations generally from mid-December to late April.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes — La Clusaz is beginner-friendly with plenty of gentle green and blue runs, especially around the Beauregard and Manigod sectors near the village. Ski schools and dedicated beginner zones make it a great place to learn and progress at your own pace while still offering enough intermediate terrain to keep improving
