Tignes Piste Map and Overview
Nestled high in the French Alps, Tignes (linked with Val d’Isère to form a massive ski domain) offers one of the most snow-reliable and expansive ski areas in Europe. With slopes rising up to approximately 3,456 m, you enjoy high-altitude terrain where the snow tends to stay firm and good for longer seasons. The connectivity between the different villages and lifts means you can explore a vast variety of terrain in a single day – from wide groomed cruisers to steeper challenges and glacier skiing.
In addition, the landscape is dramatic: broad Alpine bowls, high-altitude plateaus, and glacier access provide both beginner/intermediate friendly runs and expert terrain off the beaten track. The resort is also well geared for all-round skiing enjoyment – whether you want long scenic descents, freeride zones, or terrain for gradual progression. As one guide puts it, the “motorway-wide intermediate pistes” at high altitude are a real plus.

Grande Motte glacier – Summer Skiing at Tignes
Tignes’ summer skiing on the Grande Motte glacier is a really special experience – imagine carving on crisp glacier snow under bright summer skies, with views of the surrounding peaks stretching into the distance. The glacier terrain spans roughly 20 km of pistes between about 2,724 m and 3,456 m, giving you a solid vertical drop and a variety of runs. There’s also a snowpark at the top (around 3,456 m) where freeriders and freestylers can mess around, plus cross-country opportunities and even glacier hikes.
One of the best parts is how peaceful it feels early in the day. In summer, the lifts only run in the morning because the snow softens as the sun warms the glacier, so if you head up for first light you’ll get some of the freshest snow and quieter runs. After a few laps, you can kick back on the panoramic terrace at the Le Panoramic restaurant — a stunning spot to enjoy a drink, soak up the sun, and take in the breathtaking alpine views.
