Zillertal Piste Map and Overview

Zillertal in Austria is one of Europe’s most exciting ski valleys, offering an enormous playground for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. With a massive 548 km (340 miles) of perfectly groomed slopes served by around 180 modern lifts under the Zillertal Superskipass, you can explore terrain from gentle nursery runs to steep cruisers and high-alpine bowls without ever getting bored. The valley’s impressive variety — from the snow-sure Hintertux Glacier and lively terrain parks around Mayrhofen to the family-friendly pistes at Hochzillertal-Hochfügen and scenic cruising in the Zillertal Arena — means every day brings a new adventure and stunning panoramic views over the Tux and Zillertal Alps.

Beyond the sheer size of the ski domain, Zillertal is beloved for its well-developed infrastructure and village culture. Efficient transport links (including free ski buses with many passes), excellent ski schools, and a tapestry of cosy mountain huts make it both convenient and fun for groups, families, and solo travellers alike. The combination of long, flowing pistes, vibrant après-ski in places like Mayrhofen, and the unique opportunity to ski on a glacier nearly year-round gives Zillertal a special edge — you can learn your turns one day, then challenge yourself on high-altitude terrain the next, all with the same lift pass.

Ski Season Length and Dates

Typical season runs early December to mid-April, with glacier areas like Hintertux open almost year-round for snow-sure skiing.

Is it good for beginners?

The Zillertal has plenty of gentle, well-groomed slopes and excellent ski schools spread across the regions, making it a great choice for those learning to ski or snowboard. The variety of terrain also means beginners can progress to more challenging runs as confidence grows.

Note: Zillertal Superskipass Difficulty Breakdown (Approximate)

  • Easy (Beginners): plenty of gentle blue runs and dedicated beginner zones across the valley, especially in areas like the Zillertal Arena and Ahorn at Mayrhofen.
  • Intermediate: the largest share of terrain; extensive red runs make Zillertal ideal for confident cruisers and those progressing beyond basics.
  • Advanced/Difficult: steeper red and black runs, plus challenging options on the Hintertux Glacier and in areas like Penken and Hochfügen.

⚠️ Note: There’s no official published valley‑wide percentage breakdown from the tourism board, so this estimate is based on available data from the main constituent areas (especially Zillertal Arena, which alone has ~33 % easy, ~59 % intermediate, ~8 % advanced/expert terrain) and the known mix in other zones in the Superskipass

Does the ski pass allow access to the larger ski area?

Yes — the Zillertal Superskipass gives you access to all the major ski areas in the valley with one ticket, so you don’t need individual passes for each resort. Standalone day tickets are available for some individual zones, but for the full 540 + km experience you’ll want the Superskipass.

What’s Included in the Ski Pass?

The Zillertal Superskipass is the all-in-one ski pass for the Zillertal valley, and it includes multiple ski areas across the region.

It covers the four major Zillertal ski regions:

  • Hochzillertal-Hochfügen-Spieljoch (great mix for families and intermediates)
  • Zillertal Arena (large, varied terrain with family and freeride options)
  • Mayrhofner Bergbahnen and its extended Mountopolis area (includes awesome scenery and legendary runs)
  • Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000 including Hintertux Glacier and surrounding connected areas

There are options for cheaper, limited tickets for individual areas on shorter stays (e.g., single-day passes just for Zillertal Arena), but to access the entire Zillertal valley of skiing you’ll want the Superskipass which covers everything in one ticket.
