Ski Season Length and Dates
The ski season at Arlberg typically runs from early December through mid-April each winter. For the 2025/26 season, most of the ski area (including St. Anton, St. Christoph, Stuben, Lech, Oberlech and Zürs) is scheduled to open from 3 December 2025 and close on 19 April 2026, with some sub-areas like Warth-Schröcken operating from 5 December to 12 April. This gives skiers around 4½ months of winter skiing opportunities across one of Austria’s most celebrated alpine regions.
Is it good for beginners?
Arlberg is a vast and varied ski area with around 300 km of pistes spanning a wide mix of terrain, including many blue (beginner) runs – about 43 % of the marked slopes are considered suitable for beginners. This means there are plenty of gentler slopes and designated learner areas where new skiers can build confidence. That said, because Arlberg is also famous for challenging terrain and off-piste opportunities, some parts of the area (especially around St. Anton itself) can feel a bit daunting for absolute first-timers; many families and novice skiers prefer to start in the easier sectors or neighbouring villages like Warth-Schröcken or Sonnenkopf, which are often quieter and more beginner-oriented.
